Case study: Charles & Shoma

It began on a Sabbath afternoon in Lusaka

Charles first noticed Shoma at Railways SDA church in Lusaka in August 2023: a yellow head wrap, a multi-coloured sweater and a radiant smile. A week later he found her a better seat, a little detective work found him her number, and a phone call on August 15th began everything.

From Lusaka to America and back, their friendship grew into love, and on 18 May 2025 they married at Sarai Gardens.

The journey

The challenge

Guests were travelling from across the country, and the couple's lives stretched from Zambia to America, so gifts had to work through mobile money, Cash App, Venmo and bank transfer. They also had a beautiful photo shoot that deserved to be the heart of the site.

The approach

I kept their powder blue, navy and white with soft snowflakes, drawn in code so they stay crisp. Charles tells their story in his own words beside taped polaroid photos, and the photo shoot fills a gallery that opens each moment full-screen.

The outcome

A four-page website with a countdown that now reads "Just married!", clear event details, a gallery and a four-way registry with every payment detail kept private. Rebuilt by hand, with small thumbnails so every page loads quickly.

Powder blue, polaroids and snowflakes

Their names over a stormy-sky photo, an invitation framed by soft blue snowflakes, and a love story told beside two taped polaroids. A blue band on every page answers questions and points to the registry.
