A classy, warm website for a love that began in church

Case study: Davidson & Makanaka

It started with a quiet moment in Nottingham

It was the summer of 2022 when Davidson travelled to Nottingham for a church service and saw Makanaka leading worship. A chance lunch invitation from an old university friend, who turned out to be her cousin, brought them together, and a year later she said yes to a first date.

On 7 December 2025 they married in Harare, with loved ones from around the world watching online.

The journey
01.

The challenge

A wedding in Harare with family and friends spread across the world. Guests needed somewhere to stay, a way to give gifts that wouldn't have to go on a flight, and for many, a way to watch from afar. In-person registration filled up and closed, so the live stream became the heart of the site.

02.

The approach

I paired deep plum with soft rose on pale paper, with faint hand-drawn leaves and photos with torn-paper edges, so the site feels warm and personal. Davidson tells their story in his own words, and a photo gallery opens each moment full-screen.

03.

The outcome

A four-page website with a countdown that now reads "Just married!", hotel suggestions and an Airbnb tip, three ways to give, and a live-stream page that shows the watch link the moment it's added. Rebuilt by hand, with gallery thumbnails so it loads quickly even on a slow connection.

Plum, rose and a little torn paper

Their names in elegant italics with a rose ampersand, a leaf pattern drawn in code so it stays crisp at any size, and a love story that reads like a letter beside a framed picnic photo. The gallery opens each photo full-screen, with arrows, swiping and the keyboard.

Deep plum and soft rose

Plum gives the site its classy depth, soft rose adds warmth, and quiet mauve leaves sit on pale paper, just like the original design.
